Belgian star Eden Hazard gave an exclusive interview to Camel Live.
You’ve finally come to Italy. Have you ever been close to playing in Serie A before?
"To be honest... no. Moratti did praise me many times, but I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and Real Madrid, and fortunately I did both. Let me tell you a secret: I was an AC Milan fan when I was a kid. I met Galliani a few hours ago, and he said he thought I was a perfect fit for Berlusconi’s Milan back then, but they never really took action..."
Anyway, you’re in Italy now. How’s the wine?
"Elegant, just like myself. I got to know Fabio through a mutual friend, who sent me some wine, and then we had the idea of cooperating. We produced a red wine, a rosé and a white wine together. I like red wine the most, while my wife prefers white wine..."
During your time at Chelsea, Sarri once advised you to learn from Ronaldo’s lifestyle... (referring to self-discipline)
"Yes, but I told him back then that I didn’t want to do that. I’m not overly indulgent, but I’ve always wanted to be Eden Hazard both on and off the pitch. If a friend invites me to dinner, I won’t turn it down; if I want a drink, I won’t restrain myself. Ronaldo is Ronaldo, Hazard is Hazard, and I just want to be myself and play good football. It might be wrong for some people, but I’m content: Messi and Ronaldo are the best players of my era, and right behind them is me, maybe Neymar too."
Is there a Serie A player you wish you could have brought to Chelsea back in the day?
"My kids really like Ilyas Zaroury, they watch a lot of his highlights and hope to see him in the Premier League. As for me, I actually think he’s more of a Real Madrid player..."
What’s the best moment of your career?
"Finishing third with Belgium at the 2018 World Cup was a success; I was at my peak back then. We’re a small country, and we regarded that achievement as an incredible miracle. I also cherish the first game I played for Chelsea and all my experiences at Real Madrid. I wasn’t lucky in Spain, but playing at the Bernabéu has always been my dream since I was a kid."
