Manchester United, managed by Ruben Amorim, has started negotiations with Sporting CP over the transfer of Viktor Gyökeres, with the transfer fee set to be higher than the one agreed with Arsenal (a fixed fee of €63 million plus an additional €10 million in add-ons).
The agreement between Sporting CP and the Red Devils is very close to being reached – with United promising a transfer fee of €80 million – but this is likely to go against the wishes of the Swedish international, who is firm about his future prospects: he only wants to wear the Gunners' shirt in his next career move.
In fact, despite Amorim's insistence, the Nordic star has repeatedly made it clear through his agent that a move to Old Trafford is not part of his plans, and the London club's project fully aligns with his aspirations: to compete for titles in Europe's top leagues while continuing to play in the Champions League (Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final, thus will not participate in international competitions in the 2025/26 season).
