Rumours surrounding Enzo Fernández, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been rife as ever.
Similarly, speculation about Cole Palmer feeling unsettled at Chelsea has also been emerging constantly, and both issues are worthy of attention.
If Chelsea really intends to sell Enzo Fernández for £180 million, then he will probably not leave the club.
But considering that the club’s hierarchy have already made substantial profits since signing the Argentine star for £106 million in January three years ago, selling Fernández may well be a tempting prospect for them.
It should not be forgotten that due to amortisation, Fernández’s current book value is now lower than £106 million, so a nine-figure transfer fee would yield a very considerable return.
Meanwhile sources claim Palmer does not particularly enjoy life down south and misses his friends from back home.
It is said that if former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca replaces Pep Guardiola as Manchester City’s head coach, then Palmer, the Blues’ No.10, is very likely to return to his old club.
Although Palmer graduated from Manchester City’s academy, he has been a Manchester United fan since childhood.
Some cautious fans believe that the rumours about the Stamford Bridge hierarchy planning to rebuild the team around Estêvão are actually a preparation for selling Palmer.
If the Blues do sell Fernández and/or Palmer, their replacements must be outstanding enough to avoid triggering a strong backlash from the fans.
How Chelsea Are Faring
An illness has left several players and staff members bedridden, which seems to be simply a case of bad luck.
Chelsea ensured that all first-team personnel were vaccinated before the arrival of the winter flu season.
However, Estêvão, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens all missed matches due to high fever and other symptoms. Head coach Liam Rosenior stated that several star players still featured in the win over Brentford despite suffering from chest discomfort.
Fortunately, the Chelsea players do not seem to have been too severely affected.
This is in stark contrast to the unfortunate injury situation of Romeo Lavia. Rosenior confirmed that the Belgian midfielder returned to the Cobham training ground for practice last week, but he is not yet ready to rejoin the matchday squad.
